How to Install and Activate an eSIM on Your Phone
A simple step-by-step guide to setting up your eSIM on iPhone and Android devices. Get connected in minutes.
Before You Start
Make sure your device supports eSIM and has a stable internet connection (Wi-Fi recommended). You’ll also need your eSIM QR code handy — this was sent to you by email immediately after your purchase. Keep the email open on another device or take a screenshot for easy access during setup.
Installing on iPhone (iOS)
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Tap Cellular or Mobile Data
- Tap Add Cellular Plan or Add eSIM
- Use your camera to scan the QR code you received by email
- Tap Activate Cellular Plan when prompted
- Wait a moment for the plan to be detected
- Tap Add Another Cellular Plan if you want to keep your original SIM
- Choose your default line for data and set your preferences
- Make sure your new eSIM is enabled for Data Roaming in Cellular settings
Installing on Android
- Open the Settings app on your Android device
- Go to Network & Internet or Connections
- Tap SIM card manager or Mobile Network
- Tap Add SIM or Add Mobile Plan
- Select Scan with QR code and scan your eSIM QR code
- Tap Download to install the eSIM profile
- Name your eSIM plan (e.g., ‘TailSim Travel’)
- Set the plan as Active or Secondary depending on your needs
- Enable Data Roaming in Mobile Network settings to use data abroad
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- QR code won’t scan? Increase screen brightness, clean your camera lens, and ensure the QR code is fully visible on your screen.
- eSIM not activating? Restart your device and try again. Make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection during activation.
- No data connection after activation? Check that Data Roaming is enabled in your cellular settings. Verify your eSIM is set as the active data line.
- eSIM profile not appearing? Go to Settings → Cellular → Cellular Plans and check if the plan was added. If not, you may need to contact support for a new QR code.
After Activation
Once your eSIM is activated, you can start using mobile data immediately. You can manage your eSIM from your phone’s settings — switching between plans, checking data usage, and topping up your balance. Your original SIM remains active for calls and messages unless you specifically set the eSIM as your default line.
